So many issues face our community. Jeff can tackle them and make our community a better place.
Our Youth Matter: Give Them A Fighting Chance
Most after school programs terminate services for youth at age 13. They are cut loose to wait it out until their parents get in from work. Sadly, most teens take to the streets and crime becomes their past time instead of karate or coding. Teens are still impressionable and with the right after school offerings we can reclaim our children from aimless hanging out which then leads to a myriad of social ills such as vaping, smoking, vandalism and drug use which ultimately lead to criminal activity to support these addiction(s).
Crime in District 109
North Charleston has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes –from smallest towns to the very largest cities. The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime is 1 in 15. (Source: Neighborhoodscout.com). This can change and should – it all goes back to what we do with our youth. We must invest in human infrastructure! Those without a vision will find mischief. This leads us back to citizens being harmed physically or financially.
Traffic Nightmares – More Infrastructure Please!!!
Jeff has lived at varying ends of Dorchester Road since he moved to Charleston. There are days when a 20-minute drive turns into 1.5 hours. His children are tired, hungry and cranky and there appears to be a more plausible reason for the backlog. Dorchester Road is the main thoroughfare of the District and we have more construction than we have feasible means to travel the area.
The road needs to be widened, alternate routes need to be devised and we need a plan on how to keep the roads in good order once they are established. Jeff believes that other forms of reliable transit are needed as well.
GIVING BACK HAS THE GREATEST RETURN
One of Jeff’s favorite gospel songs is “You Can’t Beat God’s Giving”. The lyrics state:
You can't beat God's giving
No matter how you try.
'Cause just as sure as you are living
And the Lord is in heaven on high.
The more you give, the more He gives to you.
Just keep on giving because it's really true.
That you can't beat God's giving,
No matter how you try.
These are words Jeff lives by. He is a giver by nature and understands that compensation is not always financial. The greatest return on investment is to see the fruits of his labor in a simple “thank you” from a student or their parent(s) and to see the advancement of the people in his community. If you are looking for straight talk combined with passion and sincerity, then Jeff is the candidate for you.
